Argentinian beef empanadas

Description

Beef empanadas are an icon of Argentinian cuisine. Made with ground beef, onions, hard-boiled eggs, and olives, wrapped in homemade dough and baked in the oven.

Steps

  1. For the dough: mix flour with salt, add cubed butter and work until crumbly.
  2. Add warm water gradually until forming a homogeneous dough. Let rest for 30 minutes.
  3. For the filling: finely chop onions and sauté in oil until translucent.
  4. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  5. Add paprika, cumin, salt and pepper. Cook for 10 more minutes and let cool.
  6. Add chopped hard-boiled eggs, olives and raisins if using.
  7. Roll out dough, cut circles and place a tablespoon of filling in each.
  8. Close forming the traditional Argentinian crimped edge.
  9. Brush with beaten egg and bake at 200°C for 20-25 minutes until golden.
